Thousands of students voiced opinions on their university towns and cities, with Liverpool students turning out in droves to leave positive reviews of the city.
According to reviews collected by Student Hut, Liverpool ranks as the 2nd best student city in the UK, coming ahead of Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds in the student satisfaction league table.
Students reviewed their cities on a set of six criteria: Transport, Shopping, Nightlife, Eating out, Value for money and Entertainment. They awarded scores of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) for each criterion.
Liverpool scored highly in all six areas but stood out in the Nightlife and Eating out criteria, with ratings of 4.6 and 4.7 respectively.
Written comments by students reveal an appreciation for the wide range of eateries and nightclubs on offer. As one reviewer wrote:
“Really good choice of restaurants and night life. People are very friendly and it’s a safe place to live. Many different events to attend. Taxis are very good value so easy to get about as a student.”
(Rachel, March 2018)
The friendliness of the city was a common theme, with many leaving kind words on Liverpudlian hospitality:
“Very welcoming environment! As an international student from a small American town, I felt very comfortable and accepted. It is a city with a small town feel!”
(Anon, June 2018)
Students also mentioned the Albert Dock as a great place to unwind after a hard day at the desk:
“Liverpool is a really nice city. The people are really friendly and it’s easy to get around. Also hanging about the docks and the river is wonderful after a long day.”
(Uwais, June 2018)
The student satisfaction levels for Liverpool are a ringing endorsement for the city as a higher education destination. Crucially, it is an endorsement by the people that matter: the students themselves. Liverpool is home to the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores and Liverpool Hope, all of which recently welcomed a new cohort of freshers for 2018/19.
