Flying the Flag for Liverpool

Last week members of our travel trade team have been overseas flying the flag for Liverpool in India and Netherlands for two important travel trade events to promote the city and our partners.

Last week Sam from our Travel Trade team was pleased to showcase the city at Visit Britain’s India Sales Mission 2020, set across the two main metros of Mumbai and Delhi which accounts for 50% of all inbound Indian visitors to the UK. The face to face meeting format gave us a great opportunity to connect with over 200 tour operators, providing a platform for our Marketing Liverpool partners to access the Indian market, putting their product in front of some of the country’s top tour operators including Veenworld and MakeMyTrip.com.

Feedback from the mission showed there’s growing demand from Indian trade to feature new British product in itineraries, after 2019’s successful Cricket World Cup, which saw a record number of Indian visitors coming to the UK.

Also, James Wood exhibited at the Vakantiebeurs travel trade event in Utrecht, Netherlands last week.

This is one of the biggest travel events in the Netherlands and attracts a wide audience of travel trade professionals, media, influencers and consumers. It is estimated that around 100,000 visitors attended this year.

Marketing Liverpool had a space on the House of Britain stand which also included product from other regions of the UK including P&O and Great West Way.

For the last few years Marketing Liverpool has led on the delivery of the North of England City Experience – a new city based product that includes five post-industrial Northern cities (Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Hull and Newcastle/ Gateshead) – all linked by a new TransPennine rail ticket.

The Netherlands is one of the three overseas target markets and House of Britain is selling the product through their channels in this market.

Marketing Liverpool attended Vakantiebeurs last year and we have noticed an increase in requests for information about Liverpool attractions and hotels together with the city experience. This year, we even ran out of our Liverpool City Region Visitor Guides!

Interestingly there was also good recall as a result of the media and influencer activity that has been undertaken in the Netherlands over the last year.
